Mode Unlock: Random Stage
Unlock
every stage except for Battlefield, Final Destination, Dream Land N64, Yoshi's Island N64, and Kongo Jungle N64. This option
appears in Additional Rules under Custom Rules in VS mode and allows you to exclude stages you don't want to go to when you
use the Random stage select option.
Stage Unlock: Yoshi's Island Past Stage
To unlock the original
Yoshi's Island stage from the N64 version of the game, use Yoshi and hit over 1,350 ft. (400m in the JP version) in the Home-Run
Contest. To do such, stand next to the Sandbag and TAP the X or Y buttons to jump, then use the Down + A move to hit the bag
for around 30% damage each time. Do that about 4 times to get the bag up to around 100-110% damage. Since you won't have much
time left, get the bat and use a Smash hit to send the bag flying. If you did it all well enough, you should make it well
over the required distance.
Stage unlocks
Follow the methods given to unlock extra levels.

To unlock the Kongo Jungle from the N64 version of this game, complete the 15-Minute Melee. I'd recommend using Donkey
Kong and constantly use his Down + B move the entire time (thanks to DEngel's Secrets guide, for I used that strategy to unlock
this) |

The trophy is random, but when you find/win it, you get this stage. |

Easter Eggs |
Alternate Menu Music Unlock Sound Test, beat Classic, Adventure, All-Star, and Target Test with all characters,
and beat all 4 clearable Multi-Man Melees. After doing this, occasionally instead of the regular music, you will hear a remix
of the Multi-Man Melee music that closely resembles the pre-title screen music.
|
Capt.
Olimar trophy
If you start up SSBM with a Pikmin save on your memory card you will get a free trophy.
Hidden
Pokémon: Mew and Celebi
There are two Pokémon that appear in the Poké Balls but are extremely rare. Neither one
attack but you can get special bonuses/trophies from seeing them. To get Mew to appear, you must first unlock all 11 secret
characters. To get Celebi to appear, you must unlock every single thing in the game (except for trophies). After these needs
are met, Mew and Celebi will both have a 1/251 chance of appearing in your Poké Balls.
New Background Music
for Gallery Mode
Once you have unlocked the Music Test, choose a song you would like to hear in the Gallery mode
by pressing A. Now exit by pressing B, and then go to Gallery mode. Now you can look at trophies while listening to your favourite
SSB: Melee song;)
Peach's Secret Turnips
When Peach uses her Turnip attack, there is a rare
chance that she will pull a hidden item out of the ground. These items include the Beam Sword, Bob-Bomb, Mr. Saturn, and a
very sick-looking Turnip that deals obscene amounts of damage and can deal instant death at rather low percentages.
Glitches |
Automatic Zelda/Shiek transformation in Event Mode Normally, the trick in which you hold down A button while
a stage is loading so you turn Zelda into Shiek doesn't work in Event Matches. There's an easy way around this, which is pausing
the game after the Event Match has begun, holding A button down, and pressing Z (don't stop holding it down.) If done correctly,
this'll reset the Match with you as Shiek. If you reset again, you'll turn back to Zelda unless you do the trick again.

Computer
Gets Extra Lives After Death
If you have a computer player on your team (so that means atleast 1 human and atleast
1 computer) then when the computer player losses all of the lives, press start on any controller in a slot. Then take out
any controller and stick it in the slot of where the computer player is and press start on that controller. Switch the controller
back and press start. Viola the computer person "stole" one of your teammates lives or one of your lives. It goes by whoever
has the highest amount of lives gets a life taken away.
Daisy's third eye
If you go zoom into
the back of the head of the Daisy trophy, you will notice that she has the third eye on the back of her head. This only exists
in the Japanese and early North American releases.
Game & Watch Kamikaze glitch
In
a multiplayer game that features both Ness and Game & Watch, there is a glitch that turns Game & Watch into an unhittable
projectile.
To begin, have Game & Watch use the Bucket to absorb three full-powered PK Flash attacks from Ness. After three attacks,
the Bucket will be full. From there, have Game & Watch unload the Bucket onto a shielded Ness. Ness's shield will break,
and Game & Watch will fly away from the impact at blinding speed.
Not only is it a glitch for Game & Watch to fly away from the impact in the first place, but he turns into a projectile
that deals instant death to any other character he touches; furthermore, Game & Watch travels so fast that it's nearly
impossible for an opponent to react to the glitch if they don't know that it's coming in advance.
Get KO's/Vs
matches quickly and easily
To get lots of KO's and VS matches under your belt in a shorter amount of time, play
a ''1 Stock Survival Test'' against the CPU. Make sure that you are player one (you can use any character) and Ness is in
the 2nd slot. Set his CPU level to 9. Select ''Jungle Japes'' as your battlefield. When the fight begins, dont move. Ness
will go up, over, and right into the river everytime. This is handy for quickly unlocking some of the secret characters and
stages
Instant Kirby K.O.
When you are in a match, where your opponent only has 1 life, if
you use Kirby alls you have to do is suck up your opponent and go off the edge. It will count as your opponent loosing a life
first, so you dont loose a life. This is really helpful in the event mode.
Peach Turnip Glitch
If
two Peaches throw the exact same type of Turnip at each other at the exact same time, the turnips will hit each other, go
straight up in the air, the hit each other and go straight up in the air again. This will continue until both Turnips fly
off the top of the screen.
Same character, same color
Have the first player select the desired
character, have player 2 hover the cursor above the character's portrait, then simultaneously deselect on player 1's controller
and switch to the same color on player 2's controller. This allows you to have both player 1 and player 2 have the same character
with the same color scheme.

Alternate Japanese systems To see several Japanese versions of the Nintendo systems in the trophy room, as
well as a bonus Virtual Boy, switch the language on the game to Japanese.

Alternate
Menu Music
When the Super Smash Bros. Melee logo is shown, hold L and R then push Start for a different menu theme.
Alternate
Multiplayer Music
After unlocking the Sound Test (portions of this trick can be done before unlocking the Sound
Test, however), you can change the music that plays on some of the stages. When selecting them, hold L
or R until the
stage loads. Each human player competing in the match must also hold L or R. The stage's music will change. This trick works
on the following stages:
- Infinite Glacier: Icicle Mountain (Retro theme from
Balloon Fight for NES)
- Termina: Great Bay (The theme of Lost Woods from
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64)
- Hyrule:
Temple (A remix of various themes from
Fire Emblem titles)
- Yoshi's Island: Yoshi's Island (Stage 1-1
and world 1 map remix from
Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES)
- Kanto: Pokémon Stadium (The Trainer Battle theme
from
Pokémon Gold & Silver for GBC)
- F-Zero Grand Prix: Big Blue (A theme from
Mach Rider for
NES)
- Eagle Land: Onett (The theme of
EarthBound)
- Mushroom Kingdom OR Mushroom Kingdom II
(The Fever theme from
Dr. Mario)
- Special Stages: Battlefield (The theme used in Multi-Man Melee fights)
- Special Stages: Final Destination (The theme used in Event 51, The Showdown)
Sometimes, the music will
change automatically (12% chance).
Always Get Desired Pokemon
Go to training mode and continuously
select 'pokeball' from the menu. Whilst throwing them, look out for your favourite pokemon to appear, and STOP on that one.
After it has done its move, go to 1-p adventure or classic mode, and the first pokeball you open will be the one preveously
found on training. After this, the rest of the pokeballs you open are random. A good trick to use in this way is to do it
with mew, because you get bonus points for seeing her.
Charging Up the C-Stick Smashes
When
you play a match in Vs. Mode, you can use the Gamecube controller's C-Stick to perform smash attacks (as opposed to using
the Control Stick and the A Button). Normally, these C-Stick smashes only do a minimal amount of damage. However, they can
also be charged up, just as if you were using the Control Stick & A Button method. As soon as you tap the C-Stick in whichever
direction you want your smash, quickly press and hold the Z Button. Instead of performing the smash attack quickly, it'll
start charging up. The smash attack will then be performed after a few seconds, or until you release the Z Button, whichever
comes first.
Choose your Victory Pose in Melee Mode
As soon as the match ends in multiplayer
matches, hold X or Y (or A and B for characters with more than two victory poses) and you can select which victory pose your
character performs, that is if your character won the match.
Crazy Hand and his Trophy
If you
can manage to complete Classic Mode in less than 15 minutes without continuing on Normal or higher, you will battle both the
Master Hand and Crazy Hand at the end. To get the Crazy Hand trophy, complete Adventure Mode on Hard or Very Hard difficulty
without continuing.
Different Music for Break the Targets
When you're practicing the Target
bonus round, hold,
L or R while choosing the character, and loading to change the music. If you retry, hold L or R
again.
Different Music in Adventure mode
When you are on the screen which it shows the stage
you are going to, press and hold L R and START at the same time and release once the music starts.
Face
Giga Bowser in Adventure Mode
Play Adventure Mode with any character on Normal difficulty or higher, and get to
Bowser without continuing in under 18 minutes. If you beat Bowser without continuation, his trophy will come back from the
dead and transform into Giga Bowser. If you manage to defeat him again without continuing, you will get the Giga Bowser trophy.
Fast-foward
through the credits
While looking at the credits or playing that shooting game whatever, press start to fast-foward
through the credits. To stop, press start again.
Fox and Falco's Secret Taunts
Fox and Falco
each have secret taunts that can only be performed on their respective stages (Corneria or Venom). It can be done only once
per match. As either Fox or Falco, press down on the Control Pad for one frame. If done correctly, Fox/Falco will shake for
a few moments. Then, the StarFox crew will say some humorous lines and the taunt is over. Its merely for entertainment means.
You can list to the StarFox crew's sayings through the Sound Test.
Infinite Super Scope Ammo
To
get infinite super scope ammo grab a super scope then fire 3 light shots (tap A twice). Then fire two slightly charged shots(press
and hold A a short time) then fire two fully charged shots. Then if you did it right press and hold A and you should charge
up and not fire anything. Then while charging get hit or touch a mushroom while charging you should have infinite ammo.
Larger
Homerun Contest area
Change the language to Japanese, and go into the Homerun Contest. The area where you beat
up Sandbag will get bigger than if the language is English.
Ness' Secret Reflect
If anyone
throws a projectile at Ness, simply use Ness' side A move to hit it back at the opponent.
Play as Nana
On
the Character select screen, select the Ice-Climbers. Press X 3 times. You are now Nana instead of Popo.
Random
Character in Winner Out/Loser Out Tournament Melee
When playing in the Winner Out and Loser Out variations of
Tournament Melee, hold L & R while selecting any character. Your character portrait will show the Pokémon
Ditto, and every match you will use a randomly selected character and color. Note: This does NOT work in the standard Tournament
mode.
Random Character Select
The vacant spots in each bottom corner of the character select
screen (left of Pichu and right of Roy) will randomly select a character for you if you place your token there and press ''A.''
This will only work if all characters have been unlocked
Resurrection
Must be in 'Team Melee'
with at least two human players on one team. After one of the human player loses all his lives, simply press start and the
living human player will sacrifice one of his lives to the dead player, and the dead player will come back to life. NOTE:
this can be done countless times until both players reach 1 life each.
Samus's 2 missile types
With
Samus's missile (which is left or right + B) you can control its speed, color, type, and power. When you lightly tap the joystick
when you use it, the missile is slow and weak (on % damage and how far the enemy will fly back) but it homes in on your enemy
with a red flame. When you push the joystick all the way, its fast and strong (on % damage and how far the enemy will fly
back) but it can't home and the flame is white to a light blue.
Samus's Secret Throw
Samus
has a secret throw that can be performed at any time. Its a bit more difficult to perform than Fox and Falco's secret taunts.
Press Z repeatedly to extend her grappling hook but not so repeatedly as to shield. While pressing Z, rotate counter clockwise
on the Control Pad. If done properly, her grappling hook will extend by three times. It will now remain this way until he
is KOd (then you must redo the trick). The longer grappling hook is very useful. It won't grab opponents unless you press
A or Z once it touches them. It will also home onto the nearest opponent if you hold L once firing it out. The grappling hook
is also longer in the air which proves to be a much more useful recovery move than her Screw Attack (Up + B).
Transform
with Zelda before battle
In Classic Mode, if you pick Zelda, you can transform into Sheik (or vice versa if you're
already playing as Sheik) before the battle starts. On the match-up screen, hold A until the battle starts. You'll automatically
transform before it begins
Young Link's secret aerial fire attackTry using Young Link's Aerial Down
A. (In midair, press down on the control stick and press A) If you hit the enemy with the hilt of the sword, your enemy will
catch on fire.
